Transitioning to 6th grade
-
If possible, give your student a specific place to study and do homework
-
Help them with a system for tracking work from multiple classes (binder/folders, planner, etc.)
-
Encourage your student to practice estimating how long they think assignments will take
-
Help your student break big assignments into smaller, more manageable “chunks”
-
Stay as up to date as possible with your student’s classes, and communicate with their teachers when necessary
-
Make sure your student gets plenty of sleep, and limit screen time an hour before bed
-
Ask your child to spend a few minutes taking you through what they did during the day
