Transitioning to 6th grade

  • If possible, give your student a specific place to study and do homework

  • Help them with a system for tracking work from multiple classes (binder/folders, planner, etc.)

  • Encourage your student to practice estimating how long they think assignments will take

  • Help your student break big assignments into smaller, more manageable “chunks”

  • Stay as up to date as possible with your student’s classes, and communicate with their teachers when necessary

  • Make sure your student gets plenty of sleep, and limit screen time an hour before bed

  • Ask your child to spend a few minutes taking you through what they did during the day
