The use of cell phones, and personal electronic devices (smartwatches, earbuds/airpods, etc), are not allowed during the school day from the time the first bell rings to get to class at 8:25, until the end of the school day, at 3:10pm. This means that students may not use phones and personal electronic devices in the hallways, instructional spaces, bathrooms, at lunches, during passing time, in staff offices, or any other areas at any time during the school day. If parents need to contact students during the school day, they should call the office and a note will be delivered to students.
Students may have access to their phones in the main office upon permission from office personnel. Students may not record others, take pictures of others (students or staff), and/or share or post without the other’s consent. If this occurs, the school will respond, including contacting the involved students’ family to provide appropriate support and additional follow up.
Furthermore, students who film staff, or other students, without permission and/or share those videos, or photos, on social media or with other peers can create harm for members of our learning community. Students who film and share photos or videos that portray students in a negative or harmful way will engage in healing and repairing the harm done and may be subject to disciplinary actions along with continued education and support.
How can you help?
Highlight the following points with your student(s):

Cell phones / personal listening devices may ONLY be used before 8:25am and after 3:10pm.

Frequent pre-corrections will be provided at both the whole-school and classroom levels, providing students with consistent instruction on phone,and personal electronic devices expectations. This could be the teacher providing a whole class reminder at the start of class, reminders in the morning announcements, community meeting lessons, whole school and / or grade level assemblies, etc.
If an individual reminder is needed, it will typically follow a 4 step correction routine:

Greet the student(s) in a warm, neutral way and ask if they know the policy for cell phones / personal electronic devices

Remind and reteach if needed

Ask student(s) to make the correction

Thank the student(s) for aligning with the school policy
First Violation (after pre-corrective actions): The student’s cell phone / personal listening device will be confiscated by a staff member and held in the main office until the end of the school day. The student may pick it up at the end of the day.
Second Violation: The student’s cell phone / personal listening device will be confiscated and held in the main office until the end of the school day. The student may pick it up at the end of the day. The student’s parents will be contacted via email.
Third Violation: The student’s cell phone / personal listening device will be confiscated and held in the main office until the student’s caregiver, or authorized family member, is able to come to pick it up. The student will be required to check their phone in to the office every morning, and will check it out at the end of the day through the remainder of the academic quarter. This violation count and plan will be reset at the beginning of each quarter. Failure to follow these expectations may result in additional discipline.
*In the event that a student refuses to hand over their phone / personal listening device to the adult, this may count as a double violation of the school policy.

No se permite el uso de teléfonos celulares ni dispositivos electrónicos personales (relojes inteligentes, auriculares, Airpods, etc.) durante el día escolar desde el momento en que suena la primera campana para ingresar a clase a las 8:25 p. m. hasta el final del día escolar, a las 3:10 p. m. Esto significa que los estudiantes no pueden usar teléfonos ni dispositivos electrónicos personales en los pasillos, espacios de instrucción, baños, en los almuerzos, durante el tiempo de transición, en las oficinas del personal ni en ninguna otra área en ningún momento durante el día escolar. Si los padres necesitan comunicarse con los estudiantes durante el día escolar, deben llamar a la oficina y se les entregará una nota a los estudiantes.
Los estudiantes pueden tener acceso a sus teléfonos en la oficina principal con el permiso del personal de la oficina. Los estudiantes no pueden grabar a otros, tomar fotografías de otros (estudiantes o personal) y/o compartir o publicar sin el consentimiento de los demás. Si esto ocurre, la escuela responderá, lo que incluye comunicarse con la familia de los estudiantes involucrados para brindar el apoyo adecuado y un seguimiento adicional.
Además, los estudiantes que filmen al personal o a otros estudiantes sin permiso y/o compartan estos videos o fotos en las redes sociales o con otros compañeros, pueden causar daño a los miembros de nuestra comunidad de aprendizaje. Los estudiantes que filmen y compartan fotos o videos que retratan a otros estudiantes de manera negativa o dañina participarán en la sanación y reparación del daño causado y podrán estar sujetos a medidas disciplinarias junto con educación y apoyo continuos.
¿Cómo puedes ayudar?
Resalte los siguientes puntos con sus estudiantes:

Intervenciones en materia de políticas telefónicas

Se proporcionarán correcciones previas frecuentes tanto a nivel de toda la escuela como de las aulas, para brindarles a los estudiantes una instrucción consistente sobre las expectativas de los teléfonos y los dispositivos electrónicos personales. Esto podría suceder cuando el maestro proporcione un recordatorio a toda la clase al comienzo de la clase, recordatorios en los anuncios de la mañana, lecciones en reuniones comunitarias, asambleas de toda la escuela y/o de nivel de grado, etc.
Si es necesario un recordatorio individual, generalmente se seguirá una rutina de corrección de 4 pasos:

Salude al estudiante de manera cálida y neutral y pregúntele si conoce la política para teléfonos celulares/dispositivos electrónicos personales

Recuérdele y vuelva a enseñarle si es necesario

Pídale al estudiante que haga la corrección

Agradezca al estudiante por alinearse con la política de la escuela
Primera infracción (después de las acciones correctivas previas): Un miembro del personal confiscará el teléfono celular o dispositivo de escucha personal del estudiante y lo guardará en la oficina principal hasta el final del día escolar. El estudiante podrá recogerlo al final del día.
Segunda infracción: El teléfono celular o dispositivo de escucha personal del estudiante será confiscado y guardado en la oficina principal hasta el final del día escolar. El estudiante podrá recogerlo al final del día. Se contactará a los padres del estudiante por correo electrónico.
Tercera infracción: El teléfono celular o dispositivo de escucha personal del estudiante será confiscado y guardado en la oficina principal hasta que el cuidador del estudiante o un familiar autorizado pueda venir a recogerlo. El estudiante deberá entregar su teléfono en la oficina todas las mañanas y lo retirará al final del día durante el resto del trimestre académico. Este recuento de infracciones y el plan se restablecerán al comienzo de cada trimestre. El incumplimiento de estas expectativas puede resultar en una medida disciplinaria adicional.
*En el caso de que un estudiante se niegue a entregar su teléfono/dispositivo de escucha personal al adulto, esto puede considerarse una doble violación de la política escolar.
