AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Winter 2025 – January 13th - Feb 27th

The cost is $20 per activity and activities are held on Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday. Signups and payment will be done in person starting on Friday morning, December 6th. Activities with limits will close once the limit is reached, but students can be placed on a waiting list for a full/closed activity. Volleyball is an exception to this and signups for volleyball will involve a lottery (more details below).

MONDAY/WEDNESDAY

BASKETBALL (limit 20): Like to shoot, score, rebound, pass, and play defense? If so, then this is where you need to be. Come and learn the fundamentals and have fun scrimmaging daily with your friends. There may be an opportunity to play against the other middle schools. If so, games are 3:35-5:05.

CHESS / TRADING CARDS / BOARD GAMES: Whether you are interested in learning how to play chess, or have played for years, this is the club for you. This is a great activity for those who want to stretch their brain. You can also play other board games and trading card games including Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, or Yu-Gi-Oh (bring your own cards). Get signed up.

VOLLEYBALL (limit 40): Learn how to play volleyball in an organized and fun practice of fundamentals. There may be an opportunity to play against the other middle schools. If so, games are 3:35-5:05. Since volleyball is such a popular activity, a lottery system will be used. All students wanting a chance to play volleyball need to turn in their form (no money) on the 6th of December. A list will be posted by the main office of those chosen and they will have 48 hours to pay their fee or their spot will be given to another student.

TUESDAY/THURSDAY

ART MIXED MEDIA (limit 20): You will engage with an array of artistic materials to cultivate your creative abilities. Projects may include paper crafts, paints, clay and more. Time permitting, the scope of artistic endeavors may expand further. Because of the specialized art supplies required for this activity, we’d appreciate a $25 donation using the QR code attached in this packet in addition to the signup fee.

INDOOR SOCCER (limit 40): Are you interested in playing on a team sport at Hazelbrook? Then come join others who love soccer as you work to improve your skills. There may be an opportunity to play against the other middle schools. If so, games are 3:35-5:05.

WINTER HAWKS RUNNING CLUB: This running club is designed to keep you in shape over the winter season especially if you are considering running for our track team this spring. You may also have opportunities to meet up with the high school’s Winter Wolves Running Club and work out with them. One of our potential goals is to also build up to run in a local 5k race in March. If you want to stay in shape, get in better shape, improve your running skills, or improve your speed/agility, this club is for you. Be sure to dress warm as most days will be outside.

WRESTLING (No limit and it starts 1/6): Come learn some new skills and find out how tough you are in this school sport. You will be taught proper wrestling techniques by experienced and knowledgeable coaches. You will also be given a uniform, headgear, and shoes to use for the season (if lost, you are responsible for the cost to replace these items). Prepare for 4-6 tournaments during the season that run from 4:30-7:00. When buses return from these, coaches will stay for 15 min only, so please be prompt to pick up your child. The first week of school after the Christmas break, wrestling will have practice on Monday, (1/6), Tuesday (1/7), Wednesday (1/8), and Thursday (1/9). After that, wrestling practice will only be on Tues/Thurs. The league schedule will be given to athletes once it is finalized.

Lastly, because wrestling is an extra week longer than other activities, has extra coaches, and has more competitions, an extra $10 donation would be greatly appreciated so that we can continue to offer this popular activity. Please use the QR code in the packet to donate an extra $10.

HAZELBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
WINTER 2025: Jan 13-Feb 27

Three activity buses will be provided to take students home and teachers will help students get on the correct bus the first week of activities. The buses will leave between 4:20 and 4:25 pm and there will be no supervision available after that time. So, if you are not riding the bus, make sure you have a ride arranged ahead of time to pick you up. Statistics prove that adolescents are more likely to feel connected to their school and perform better academically when participating in extracurricular activities. Encourage your child to get involved!

BEHAVIOR, BUS, and GRADE GUIDELINES

1) Students are to report to their activity no later than 3:20pm. Multiple tardies will cause suspension from the activity.

2) Cooperative behavior is extremely important in all activities. Any student who misbehaves will be given a warning. After the warning, he/she may be suspended from the activity. If a referral is submitted for unsafe behavior, a student may be removed from the activity immediately.

3) While riding home on the BUS, each student must agree to behave appropriately. Each student needs to ride the bus that they are assigned to and adhere to the rules of the bus driver. If an official complaint is made about a student’s behavior on the bus, they may be suspended from the activity and/or the bus. If a second complaint is made, the student will no longer be allowed to ride the activity bus and may be removed from the activity.

4) Students that fall below a C average in any class may be suspended from that activity until the grade improves. In addition, students that are displaying poor behavior in class during the school day, may be suspended from the activity.

5) Students missing 3 or more practices may not be allowed to participate in competitions with other schools.

6) No refunds will be made if a student is dismissed from an activity due to poor behavior.

Students must turn in all of the following in order to sign up:
