HAZELBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Spring 2025 – March 31st - May 15th

The cost is $20 per activity and activities are held on Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday. Signups and payment will be done in person starting on Friday morning, March 7th. Activities with limits will close once the limit is reached but students can be placed on a waiting list for a full/closed activity. Volleyball signups are a lottery (more details below).

MONDAY/WEDNESDAY:

BASKETBALL (limit 20): Like to shoot, score, rebound, pass, and play defense? Sign up for basketball and learn the fundamentals. If Fowler and Twality have spring teams, you will get a chance to compete against them. See your coach for more details.

SOCCER (limit 36): Are you a fan of this internationally popular sport? Then come join others who are also crazy for soccer as you work to improve your skills. If Fowler and Twality have spring teams, you will get a chance to compete against them.

VOLLEYBALL (limit 40): Learn how to play volleyball in an organized and fun practice of fundamentals. There may be an opportunity to play against the other middle schools. If so, games are 3:35-5:05. Since volleyball is such a popular activity, a lottery system will be used. All students wanting a chance to play volleyball need to turn in their form (no money yet) on 3/7. A list will be posted by the main office on 3/10 of those chosen and they will have 48 hours to pay their fee or their spot will be given to another student.

TUESDAY/THURSDAY:

DODGEBALL/4-SQUARE/WALL-BALL/GAGA BALL: This will be a fast-paced activity with lots of throwing and agility. Sign up with your friends and have a great time playing this classic game. In addition, there will also be chances to play 4-square, Gaga ball, and wall ball.

TRACK AND FIELD (season starts early on 3/17): Hazelbrook competes in the Willamette River League for track and field complete with online automatic timing and a district meet for the top qualifiers. You will get to compete in 5 track meets against other middle schools in our area with no practices or meets on the weekends! You can also qualify for the district meet (5/13) and the state meet (5/16). Come get into shape, try some field events, and improve your running skills. Your coaches will get you ready to compete in field events like the shot put, discus, long jump, aero javelin, and high jump, as well as the eight different running events including the short and long relays. This is a very popular activity at HMS with around 150-175 athletes on the team. Get signed up, join the fun, and help HMS win another district championship. See your coach for a schedule, or for up-to-the date information, go to athletic.net (you’ll find our schedule, blog, updates, pictures, records from the past, a place for parents to sign up to volunteer to help at our 4/10 home meet, and more).

Two weeks before spring break, there will be two optional conditioning practices on Tuesday, March 11th and Thursday, March 13th. One week before spring break, we will practice Mon (3/17), Tues (3/18), Wed (3/19), and Thurs (3/20), but after that, we will just have practice on Tues/Thurs.

Track and field shirts ($20) and sweatshirts ($40) are optional to buy and you can compete in them. This year, they have an HMS track logo on them and the shirts are a red, white, and blue tie-died 50/50 and sweatshirts are blue tie-died 60/40. To buy one, or both, turn in money to the main office and TELL THEM THE SIZE YOU WANT (Available sizes are Youth Medium – Adult XXL and can’t be adjusted after ordering as it is a custom order). We want to have them for the first track meet, so the deadline to get your order in is by 3:10 on WEDNESDAY, 3/19.

Lastly, because ‘Track and Field’ is an extra week longer than other activities, has extra coaches, and has more competitions, an extra $10 donation would be greatly appreciated so that we can continue to offer this popular activity. Please use the QR code in this packet to donate $10.

HAZELBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES - Spring 2025

Three activity buses will be provided to take students home and teachers will help students get on the correct bus the first week of activities. The buses will leave between 4:20 and 4:25 pm and there will be no supervision available after that time. So, if you are not riding the bus, make sure you have a ride arranged ahead of time to pick you up. Statistics prove that adolescents are more likely to feel connected to their school and perform better academically when participating in extracurricular activities. Encourage your child to get involved!

1) Students are to report to their activity no later than 3:20pm. Multiple tardies will cause suspension from the activity.

2) Cooperative behavior is extremely important in all activities. Any student who misbehaves will be given a warning. After the warning, he/she may be suspended from the activity. If a referral is submitted for unsafe behavior, a student may be removed from the activity immediately.

3) While riding home on the BUS, each student must agree to behave appropriately. Each student needs to ride the bus that they are assigned to and adhere to the rules of the bus driver. If an official complaint is made about a student’s behavior on the bus, they may be suspended from the activity and/or the bus. If a second complaint is made, the student will no longer be allowed to ride the activity bus and may be removed from the activity.

4) Students that fall below a C average in any class may be suspended from that activity until the grade improves. In addition, students that are displaying poor behavior in class during the school day, may be suspended from the activity.

5) Students missing 3 or more practices may not be allowed to participate in competitions with other schools.

6) No refunds will be made if a student is dismissed from an activity due to poor behavior.
